“THIS IS MY AMERICA TOO”

Centered around an excerpt from a speech by Kehinde Wiley at the unveiling of his monumental work, Rumors of War, this video installation explores the parallels between Wiley’s artwork and the changes which have swept the city of Richmond, Virginia in the year since the statue’s unveiling. This artwork, which was commissioned by Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and projected on the exterior of the museum itself, features an original musical score and video shot on Monument Avenue, combined with media from the VMFA’s archives to produce a stirring experience which brings Wiley’s words and work to life.
